通常學集合論，都係講 naive set theory 先，之後就講幾個悖論，再順手引入現代嘅形式系統，多數係 ZFC（naive set theory 都可以用形式系統去講）。大多數嘅改變都係喺 axiom of (unrestricted) comprehension（任何述詞嘅外延都係一個集合）度，例如變成 axiom of separation（任何集合嘅任何子集都係一個集合）。

呢本書做嘅事，首先係重構返 Cantor 嘅集合論出嚟，特別著重於佢嘅（無限）序數、基數理論。並說明佢嘅思想上有幾條原則，同點應用喺佢嘅理論度︰

• (a) 任何潛無限都預設咗一個實無限（作為論域）。
• (b) 超限 (transfinite) 嘅物件同有限嘅物件數學上應該盡量平等對待。
• (c) 數學上無法判定同處理絕對無限 (Absolute infinite)。
